Strategic Plan
Continuing Education supports and reflects the goals of the Flagship Agenda in the following ways:
increases research productivity in support of long-term economic development,
increases number and quality of graduate students and programs,
increases quality of undergraduate students and programs,
improves quality of campus life,
assesses LSU’s progress and communicates achievements, and
increases funding sources in support of the five statements above.
The Vision of Continuing Education is to extend the educational resources of LSU to improve the quality of life for the people of Louisiana, the nation, and the global community.
The Mission of Continuing Education is to identify, create, and support lifelong learning opportunities through quality programs that address educational, professional, and economic development.
The following objectives direct Continuing Education as it fulfills the outreach and public service mandates of a public land-grant and sea-grant Research I institution.

Contribute to the economic development of the State
Actions:
Increase the inventory and quality of courses offered to
Distance learners
Adults seeking professional advancement
Special populations with unmet needs
Expand certification offerings in areas as needed
Expand options to include flexible, non-traditional learning opportunities
Collaborate with targeted companies and corporate clients
Acquire external funds to provide scholarships
Develop an Academy of Leadership to meet professional and corporate needs
Engage the University’s extensive resources in programs that help solve economic, environmental, and social challenges
Actions:
Partner with business and industry leaders to identify skills needed by potential employers
Expand course offerings in environmental safety
Establish cohorts of learners/special populations with common interests to provide greater learner support
Provide opportunities for faculty to share their knowledge with educational, professional, cultural, and economic enterprises
Actions:
Solicit the engagement of faculty to develop programs and courses that reflect the University’s outreach mission
Offer programs that fulfill K-12 initiatives
Sponsor/Coordinate regional and national programs for the benefit of the University and surrounding communities
Initiate visits with deans, chairs, and faculty to discuss possible collaboration
Provide incentives to colleges, departments, and selected faculty to develop and offer relevant programs through Continuing Education
Attract, retain, develop, and support personnel to enhance the effectiveness of the Division
Actions:
Increase learning and professional development opportunities through staff participation in seminars, classes, organizations, conferences
Encourage scholarly involvement and pursuit of degree opportunities
Emphasize cross-training in appropriate areas
Facilitate the engagement of the University with external constituencies to initiate public service and outreach partnerships
Actions:
Identify means of collaboration with University, state, regional, and national entities to provide mutually beneficial courses/programs that support the goals of all entities
Increase communication with identified internal and external entities
Maintain active participation and networking in professional associations related to continuing education
Investigate methods of non-traditional delivery of programs
Utilize environmental scanning results to identify markets
Benchmark programs against peer institutions
Create a strong brand image for the Division that complements the University’s brand image
