Certificate Programs
LSU Independent and Distance Learning are pleased to
provide undergraduate credit certificates in liberal studies, business communication, and human
services designed for persons who do not have a college degree. The Accounting program is for
individuals with a college degree who enroll in college-level accounting courses through distance
learning in order to achieve career goals.
Extended Learning
The primary function of the office of Extended Learning is to extend the reach of Louisiana State
University, in order to fulfill educational needs across the state of Louisiana, where otherwise
there would be no access to these programs. Extended Learning offers term-based courses and degree
programs using compressed video, internet delivery, and traditional on-site instruction. Our
office primarily handles courses offered via compressed video, which are transmitted to various
receiving sites around the state of Louisiana. Compressed video courses are taught here in Baton
Rouge in specially equipped classrooms and are transmitted to similarly equipped classrooms across
the state. The transmission is fully interactive, in that students at the distance sites can see,
hear, and communicate with their instructor and classmates here in Baton Rouge and at all other
distance locations.
Independent & Distance Learning
LSU Distance and Independent Learning courses allow you to earn college credit from anywhere,
at the learning pace that is right for you. There are no classroom meetings--all course materials
are available where you are, either online or in print; and no semester calendar--enroll anytime
and take up to nine months to complete a course.
Intersession Programs
The Intersession office administers three Intersession terms each academic year for regular
University students. Intersession terms are scheduled between the three regular LSU semesters
and provide an opportunity for students to schedule one course per term (or up to 6 credit hours
with special permission). Intersession terms include Wintersession (an 11-day condensed term
between Fall and Spring semesters); Spring Intersession (a 15-day condensed term between Spring
semester and Summer term); and Summer Intersession (an 11-day condensed term between Summer term
and Fall semester).
