Computer Applications Courses
LSU's Desktop Applications Specialist Certificate Program is designed to help you develop and
validate your skills in using the Microsoft Office suite of business software. The courses cover
key concepts and skills and they also assist those preparing to seek certification as Microsoft
Office Specialists (Please Note: Certification is optional).
The Microsoft Office Specialist program is designed for individuals who use Microsoft's business
desktop software and who seek recognition for their expertise with specific Microsoft products.
Certification candidates must pass one or more product proficiency exams in order to earn Microsoft
Office Specialist certification.
Financial Strategies for Successful Retirement
This course will equip you with the facts you need to prepare for a financially secure retirement.
You will learn to seek maximization of your income and get more from your investments. You will
also learn how to protect your hard-earned money from inflation, income taxes and erosion due
to possible long-term health care needs. This seminar will show you a conservative approach to
wise money management and will identify lifestyle issues facing retirees. The information you receive
may pay dividends for the rest of your life. Major topics to be presented include: Financial Basics,
Your Retirement Income, Investments, Risk Management, Estate Planning.
Lagniappe Studies Unlimited
Lagniappe Studies is a Learning in Retirement program, which is an organization of mature adults who
get together to learn and to have fun. It's sponsored by Louisiana State University's Division of
Continuing Education and is an affiliate of Elderhostel Institute Network. It provides people who are
50 years and older a chance to investigate interesting topics and current issues in a relaxed but
stimulating environment.
Learning Vacations for Adults & Families
We offer these exciting overseas educational travel programs for our community through the 25-year-old
nationwide TraveLearn Network of over 300 Universities, Colleges, and their affiliated Lifelong Learning
Institutes.
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
LSU Continuing Education was recently awarded a $100,000 grant from The Bernard Osher Foundation to
establish the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, or OLLI, at LSU. The funding will support educational
programs for people over 50 – many of whom are entering retirement – providing them with the
opportunity to re-tool their skills for the future, explore new topics, discuss current events and
actively engage with peers from all walks of life.
